Oktoberfest Tasting Party

____________________________________________________________________

October is knocking at the door and we are celebrating in grown-up style with a nod to the world’s largest fair – Oktoberfest! Since we couldn’t travel to Munich, Germany to celebrate, we are sharing a way to bring a bit of Oktoberfest fun to you at home.

It’s no big secret that Oktoberfest equals beer – beer tasting, food pairings with beer, special micro brews…you get the picture. We chose By the Glass Too for it’s great beverage images to work with for our party invite.

Since “Oktoberfest” is such a unique title, we used the Alpha Monogram Mini set to spell out the word using the center letters.

Whether you are new to beer or a true connoisseur, it’s always fun to try a flight of beer at your local brewery. A flight is a tasting of each style of beer available, generally a great way to introduce yourself to the offerings of a new brewery.

At our party, we are doing a blind tasting. Each guest will receive a flight and rate the beers. We simply added vinyl die cut numbers to mini beer glasses using the Numbers dies.

The taste test is a super fun way to make your Oktoberfest theme interactive.

To rate the beers, each flight comes with a Beer Tasting Card. Before the night is over, the host can step aside and tally up the votes to reveal the crowd favorites.

When we think of a beer, we also think about bar food – peanuts, pretzels…popcorn! We filled Burlap Bags to the brim with popcorn, and dressed them up with plaid stamped bow ties using the Create-a-Plaid: Wide stamp and Bow Trio: Large dies. These popcorn bags make for a tasty and welcomed party favor.

If you are not a fan of beer, switch up your Oktoberfest Tasting Party to feature delicious German inspired foods from the festivities. This a perfect way to keep with the theme for a non-alcoholic option!

Summer BBQ

____________________________________________________________________

It’s summertime, and that means bring on the bbq celebrations! Hours on end of grilling and relaxing with friends is a perfect way to spend any afternoon.  We are all too familiar with the alluring aromas of backyard cookouts, so our invitations are a fun play on food found at any barbeque – hamburgers and hot dogs of course!

The Party Elements: BBQ set has an amazing “build-a-burger” and “build-a-hot dog” set of images that literally stamp in layers to create a fun hamburger and hot dog. We took a few extra steps to mask them all together to create one tasty scene.

To mask, you will just need the stamps, a variety of Clear and Simple Stamps Hybrid inks and masking paper.  If you do not have masking paper, sticky notes will work just fine.

  1. Create your build-a-burger.  Be sure to stamp each layer twice. Once onto your card base, and again onto sticky note paper.  Do not worry if the alignment is not the exact same.
  2. Once yous mask is complete, trim it and place over your stamped card base. Then stamp your build-a-hot dog images. Again be sure to stamp these twice – once on the card base, and again on your mask.
  3. Trim out your second mask, adhere over the hot dog, then stamp your cup image from By the Glass Jr Too. Color your image with markers.
  4. Lastly, stamp the solid straw image at the rim of your cup.

The fun part about a barbeque is truly the food – and good company – but really it is all about the food! So we wanted our invitations to be a bit interactive, a food friendly. Remember, the invitation sets the mood for your event, so you want them to be memorable.

Each invite was packaged in a Party Favor 12 tray with a single serve bag of chips.  But not just any plain ‘ole bag of chips – a custom stamped bag that is super easy to create and decorate for the event!

Our secret ingredients you ask:

Follow these simple steps to create your own DIY Potato Chip Bags:

  1. Cut Kraft Like a Rockstar Gift Wrap 11.5″ x 6″ and cut parchment paper slightly smaller at 11.25″ x 5.75″,
  2. Adhere parchment paper to gift wrap using Simple Adhesive.
  3. Score seams at 3″ then 7.5″ – this will create a slight overlap on the back, which is what you want to have happen. Here you can stamp your custom message since you will have an accurate idea of the center of the bag.
  4. Adhere all seams except the top with Simple Adhesive. You can adhere the adhesive along the top but leave the protective backing on until you fill with your chips.
  5. Fill will chips and adhere shut.
  6. Crimp edges with a paper crimper on both the top and bottom.

Your guest will be ready to chow down at the BBQ once they open and enjoy a fun bag of chips with their invitations. And keeping with the theme of barbeque inspired food, once each guest is ready to go home from the Summer BBQ cute condiment favors will await them.

These favors come to together quickly, and are a very useful gift. Your guests will think back and remember the party when they reach to open each jar.

Have fun this summer creating fab parties.  Create with coordinating elements and fun themes to make them memorable and exciting. Here is a list of today’s supplies to help get you started to create your own Summer BBQ Party:

Preppy Baby Shower

____________________________________________________________________

We said farewell to a fashion icon this week, Lilly Pulitzer. You didn’t need to be a student of fashion to recognize her signature blooms and bold color ways. What once was intended to disguise juice stains from manning her family OJ stand, turned into an iconic dress line adored by the masses.

As a fun tribute, we took a page right out of the Lilly Pulitzer book of style to create a Preppy Baby Shower in her signature colors:

This preppy baby shower has a fun twist…it’s a onesie decorating shower.

Guests will receive a blank onesie, that will be decorated at the party for the new little one. Each onesie is stamped on the back with a butterfly – the party’s cute little logo. This way the mommy-to-be will always know which onesies came from her shower.

The invitations itself plays up on a fun mix of plaid along with the playful butterfly image. The negative die cut area using the dress from Tiny Fashion dies, creates a bit of depth and dimension.

We planned ahead and also created matching thank you cards with coordinating envelope and stamped plaid liner.

Interactive showers are super trendy, just like Lilly Pulitzers bold prints. We have to admit, it’s a great color palette for a Springtime baby shower! You could easily switch out the colors for a baby boy, and use the overalls or actual onesie images instead.

Nature of Winter

Winter means embracing the rustic beauty of nature. Freshly fallen snow, aged tree bark, semi-frozen lakes with mossy logs along the water’s edge – it truly is an awesome sight to see, especially during the winter months.

Today we are excited for another fun Group Project. This week features ideas for sharing projects that incorporate a natural element. Join the design team, as we share our {Nature of Winter} projects.  We’ve included a full list of participating CSS designers:

Haute Chocolate

___________________________________________________________________

For many winter equals short, blustery days and long, chilly nights. What better way to stay warm, than with a cozy cup of hot chocolate? But not just your average cup of cocoa. Let’s kick it up a notch and papercraft a fun gift set of Haute Chocolate…on a stick! This is homemade hot chocolate with gourmet flavors added in for fun.

First you will need to round up a few ingredients:

  • dutch cocoa (baker’s chocolate)
  • chocolate chips or shavings
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
  • heavy cream
  • flavor toppings (orange, chili peppers, cinnamon, mint)

The flavorful toppings are what takes this winter treat from ordinary to simply delicious. Follow the Haute Chocolate recipe (available for PDF download) to create your tasty, single serve beverages.

We selected three fun topping options: Mint, Chili Pepper, and Orange Peel to infuse our haute chocolate.

As cute as the single serve cocoas can be all by themselves, we couldn’t resist packaging them up with a few of our crafty Clear and Simple Stamps supplies.

To start we cut a band of Kraft Like a Rockstar gift wrap to fit a standard white paper cup. (click here to view another project using stamped gift wrap) We’d advise the you cut apart a cup from the pack to use as a template for this part of the project, as cup sizes will vary based on the supplies available to you. Cut the gift wrap according to your template, then stamp with the Birch Trees background in Dish All the Dirt Brown ink.

Now that our cups have had a bit of a makeover, we wanted our Haute Chocolate on a stick to have equally fun packaging.

We die cut Cube favor boxes, with a hole cut from the center using a Shapes: Circles die, and a tiny Word Window from the top. Here the wooden spoons can easily fit into the lid of the cube to create the perfect single serve packaging for each Haute Cocoa serving. Each box is color coordinated to match the flavor.

We hope you enjoyed seeing fun ways to incorporate natural elements into papercrafting.

A {Berry} Sweet Celebration

COLLECTION 5: RELEASE IN REVIEW

Let’s celebrate! You are invited to join in the fun with today’s Collection 5: Release in Review Party {Blog} Hop. We decided to throw a big bash and keep the party going as you hop from one designer’s blog to the next. This special Party Hop showcases Collection 5 and how the new release can easily translate into fabulous party ideas…

A {Berry} Sweet Celebration

____________________________________________________________________

Growing up, every Saturday morning, we watched cartoons. And not just any cartoons…we loved Strawberry Shortcake! We loved her adorable strawberry house, the little berrykins, pupcake, custard, and her fab berry-esque friends: Orange Blossom, Cherry Jam, Blueberry Muffin, Raspberry Torte, Lemon Meringue, and Plum Pudding.

So today’s party is dedicated to our very own Rag Doll version of Strawberry Shortcake!

{Click photos in gallery below for a closer look}

We had so much fun using the new Collection 5 elements to create this Berry Sweet Celebration. The party consists of:

a strawberry-shaped house invitation

    • The base of the invitation used the Fruit Appliques 2: Strawberry. We die cut the layers, and instead of cutting a black layer for the seeds, we simply colored the red seeds with a Black (100) Copic marker.
    • Once adhered for the card front we printed invitation details on a sheet of Dare to be a Diva Red cardstock, stamped the invitation elements (date.time, place, etc), scored a line 1/2″ from the top and adhered the to base layers together to create a card.
    • Lastly we added the house details using the door frame and windows from the Rag Doll House set.

a fresh berry topiary

    • This berry topiary acts as a great snack that doubles as decor for the party.
    • Simply add kale greenery to the base of a green styrofoam cone, and adhere berries on tooth picks to fill in from the bottom up.

mini lemon bundt cakes

    • Each mini bundt cake is nestled atop an adorable Cupcake Stand.
    • Each stand was die cut from A Blanc Check cardstock.
    • We then stamped the bases with wide stripes from the Designer Lines set in Glamazon Green ink, because we all know Strawberry Shortcake wears her signature green striped stockings!

custom labeled berry juice

    • This is one of our favorite elements from the party – custom labels for Izze bottles.
    • We stamped the Labels 11 coordinating frame from the Labels Frames 1 set in Perfect Little Black Dress ink onto full sheet labels.
    • We then masked the inside rectangle and stamped the hat from the Rag Dolls Hats set.
    • We added a mask to the hat and stamped Rag Doll Willa: Banner.
    • We colored each label to resemble Strawberry Shortcake – red hair. check, berry hat…almost there.
    • To finish off the hat, we stamped the raindrop image from the Spring set in Dare to be a Diva Red ink.
    • Next we stamped the strawberry image from Perfect Harvest, colored the tops, trimmed them off, and adhered them to each hat.
    • The rectangular label was trimmed out and adhered to the bottle/
    • Around the neck of the bottle, we die cut the Wrappers round wrap from Glamazon Green cardstock, and stamped the wide lines from the Designer Lines set.
    • We punched a hole on each end of the wrapper, threaded with twine and wrapped around the bottle neck, secure with a bow in the back.

 berry name plates

    • Each item at the party was clearly labeled with a fun name plate.
    • The name plates are the 3″ Toppers die cut from Glamazon Green cardstock, and stamped the wide lines from the Designer Lines set.
    • We also die cut a banner from Favor Flags in A Blanc Check cardstock.
    • The banners were stamped accordingly using a mix of sets: Perfect Harvest Sentiments, Rag Doll house: Stand, Sweet Sentiments.
    • Then we added a die cut and stamped strawberry to each name plate. The strawberry die is from the Mini Fruit dies, and the coordinating stamp image from Perfect Harvest.
